As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting the whole child, we are seeking a passionate and dedicated Pastoral Support Worker to lead the development of Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) provision across the school.
This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of our children by embedding a whole-school approach to emotional wellbeing and mental health. The successful candidate will work closely with pupils, staff, and families to create a safe, supportive, and resilient school environment where every child can thrive.
Key Responsibilities:-
- Develop and lead the school’s SEMH strategy, ensuring a proactive and inclusive approach to pupil wellbeing.
- Provide direct support to children experiencing social, emotional, or mental health challenges, implementing interventions tailored to individual needs.
- Work collaboratively with staff to embed wellbeing practices in daily teaching and learning.
- Build positive relationships with families, offering guidance and support to strengthen home-school partnerships.
- Liaise with external agencies, ensuring children and families receive the right support at the right time.
- Deliver staff training on SEMH awareness and strategies to enhance whole-school wellbeing.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of SEMH interventions, contributing to continuous school improvement.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Experience working with children and families in a pastoral, SEMH, or wellbeing-focused role.
- A strong understanding of social, emotional, and mental health needs in primary-aged children.
- The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff, and parents.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A proactive and compassionate approach to supporting children’s wellbeing.
- Experience working with external agencies and knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
- A relevant qualification in SEMH, counselling, education, or a related field (desirable but not essential).

- Essential Qualifications

- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above).
- Relevant qualification in education, child development, counselling, or a related field (e.g., Level 3 or above in Supporting Teaching & Learning, Youth Work, Social Work, or Mental Health).
- Training in safeguarding and child protection (or willingness to complete upon appointment)
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above).
- Desirable Qualifications

- Higher-level qualification in SEMH, behaviour management, counselling, or family support.
- Thrive, Trauma-Informed Schools, or similar training.
- First Aid qualification.
- Higher-level qualification in SEMH, behaviour management, counselling, or family support.
- Essential Experience

- Experience of working with children and young people with SEMH needs.
- Experience in supporting positive behaviour management in an educational or pastoral setting.
- Experience of working with families to improve attendance, behaviour, or wellbeing.
- Experience of working collaboratively with external agencies, such as CAMHS, social care, or educational psychologists.
- Experience of working with children and young people with SEMH needs.
- Desirable Experience

- Previous experience in a school-based pastoral role.
- Experience in delivering 1:1 and group interventions to support social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Experience in analysing attendance and behaviour data to inform interventions.
- Previous experience in a school-based pastoral role.
