Information
Are you ambitious, enthusiastic and committed to supporting children with additional needs to reach their full potential? Are you ready for a new challenge and enjoy working in a dynamic environment rewarded daily by the small steps of success made by children with additional needs such as social, communication and interaction including children with ASD? If so, we would love to meet you.

We are setting up a second SEN classroom for pupils with SLCN/ASD which is due to open in September 2025. Each class will have up to 8 children; pupil numbers in each class are much smaller than in a mainstream class to allow for a more specialist teaching approach. The role will require teaching and learning using a provision-based approach.

The governors of our friendly, inclusive school seek to appoint an energetic, committed, forward thinking and enthusiastic class teacher who is keen to be part of a small, engaging, and nurturing environment for children with additional needs from the beginning.  We are looking for somebody who is highly motivated to engage learners with diverse needs, calm and resilient in a challenging environment and supportive in the development and growth of our new classes.

We are looking for:

  • Someone with the highest expectations of all the children in our school and is committed to providing all pupils with a creative and stimulating environment.
  • Someone with the belief that all children are capable of great things and the drive to make it possible for each of them to achieve.
  • A team player with high standards of professionalism, strong interpersonal skills and an excellent communicator.
  • Someone who will care for our children, ensure they feel safe and valued.

    We will offer you:

  • Happy and well-behaved children who are keen to learn and enjoy a range of experiences.
  • A dedicated team of teaching and support staff who make learning exciting and meaningful.
  • A supportive governing body.
  • A curriculum that is bespoke to our pupils.
  • Excellent professional development opportunities.
  • The successful candidate will be able to plan and deliver an adapted curriculum, 1:1 and small group interventions and have strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.

Will be confident liaising with external agencies and successful in building strong, positive relationships with parents and carers. Will become part of a committed team, sharing the same vision for the unit and wider school community, focusing on positivity, progression and perseverance driving learning forward.

Rehabilitation The post you are applying for is covered by the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (as amended in 2013). If successful you will be required to apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) for a 'disclosure'. Information provided by you or the Disclosure and Barring Service will be dealt with in a confidential manner in accordance with the DBS's Code of Practice. You may view the Code of Practice on the DBS website at www.gov.uk/dbs or alternatively a copy is available on request. Lancashire County Council has a Handling of DBS Certificate Information Policy this is available from the recruiting manager to applicants who are asked to complete a DBS application.

Lancashire County Council has a Policy Statement on the Recruitment of Ex-offenders this is available to all applicants upon request.

Please note that in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024, an online search will be carried out as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.
