An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and innovative Temporary
Maternity Cover Subject Leader for RCS and PSHE to join our team at Pendle Education
Trust based at West Craven High School. We will consider both part and full time
applications for this role - please state your preference in your application.

Delivering Religious and Citizenship Studies as part of the Humanities and MFL Curriculum
Team, you will also be responsible for the leadership of the subject as well as co-ordinating
PSHE delivery across the academy. Our Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE)
Curriculum incorporates Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) at key stages 3 and 4, and
Health Education, as well as supporting the delivery of:

• Economic wellbeing, careers and enterprise education
• How to stay safe and behave online
• Citizenship national curriculum
• Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural (SMSC) development and promoting
fundamental British Values

PSHE is delivered across all year groups and throughout school. A large proportion is taught
explicitly as part of the Religious and Citizenship Studies (RCS) curriculum, which has
dedicated curriculum time across all year groups. It is also at the heart of our Form
Development Time (FDT) programme, as well as some content being covered within other
subjects, for example some sex education is delivered within Science and safety in
Computing.

Key duties include:

  • Curriculum development for RCS, including planning, preparing high quality teaching
    and learning.
  • Coordinating the provision of PSHE through the academy.
  • Developing and sharing resources.
  • Delivering enrichment and enhancement activities.
  • Completing required assessment duties in relation to student assignments.
  • Valuing and support students to achieve their full potential.
  • Being responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young
    people and/or vulnerable adults.

    The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • A degree in a relevant subject area.
  • Successful teaching experience in a relevant subject area.
  • Thorough knowledge of the National Curriculum.
  • Experience of working in partnership with parents/carers to facilitate effective links
    between home and school
