The Headteacher and Governing Body are looking to appoint a talented and enthusiastic Cover Teacher to join our school in a permanent position to cover PPA and absence. We are seeking a teacher available for a start date as soon as possible.

Hillside caters for 100 pupils aged 4-19 with autism and a wide range of associated complex needs. We invite applications from excellent classroom practitioners who are able to deliver a full, personalised curriculum. Applications are welcomed from both ECTs and experienced teachers, in particular those with experience of teaching pupils with autism. The successful candidate will have knowledge of child development and a detailed understanding of autism specific interventions and teaching strategies.

Many of our pupils are working at developmental stages below their age-related expectations, and follow a primary style curriculum model, therefore we are seeking a teacher who can confidently teach all subjects. In KS3, 4 and 5 our pupils access a wide range of external accreditations and across the whole school pupils are enabled to access a variety of community activities and educational visits. We are looking for a teacher who can work across the different age ranges at Hillside, and teach learners to develop their academic skills, alongside independence and life skills, self-regulation techniques and prepare them for life after Hillside.

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate effective skills in leading a team of teaching assistants to provide a meaningful, motivating, and memorable learning experience for all pupils; provide excellent care, including personal care, for all pupils within their class. They must have a good understanding of autism specific de-escalation techniques, and be committed to undertaking Teach Teach training as part of the role.

The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to inclusion and working in partnership with all stakeholders.

We offer a friendly school with a staff team who provide excellent peer support, pupils who are keen to attend school and want to learn. Hillside also offers each member of staff free access to health and wellbeing services.

Unfortunately, we will be unable to show potential candidates around school prior to interview, however there will be a full tour as part of the interview process.
