Moss Side Primary School wishes to appoint a dedicated person to support pupils who are facing difficulties in school because of issues related to social, emotional, personal, behavioural challenges or other factors. The candidate will work as a Learning Mentor to help these pupils overcome their barriers to learning and fully engage with lessons to become more effective learners, and to make academic and pastoral progress. Duties will include supervising and supporting pupils excluded from class or on alternative timetables as well as running intervention and nurture groups.
The candidate should have a well-developed understanding of strategies to manage and support young people with challenging behaviour in the school environment. They must be experienced at tailoring interventions to individual pupils and have an ability to run small group sessions
This is an exciting opportunity for someone to come and join the pastoral team, working with the SLT to help shape this new role and develop strategies that support pupils within the guidance of our Positive Behaviour Policy. The successful candidate will be able to work well independently to react to pupils as required, as well as work collaboratively with the wider staff team. An ability to work calmly and flexibly is essential.
Moss Side Primary School has an excellent reputation in the area and is consistently oversubscribed. We serve the Moss Side area of Leyland, where our catchment caters to a diverse range of pupils, contributing to a dynamic school community. We pride ourselves on our close working relationship with our parents, who we invite into school on a regular basis and communicate with via our ‘open door’ approach.
Academically we maintain a high standard, but this does not mean that our emphasis is on academic success to the exclusion of all else. We believe that school should be a happy, exciting place and, to support this, have developed a carefully crafted series of opportunities to support the personal development of our pupils. Great importance is placed on our class assemblies and whole school productions, as well as charity events and special weeks. We also have a wide programme of enrichment activities, to support the wider curriculum and use staff skills to give pupils sporting, dramatic, musical and artistic opportunities amongst other things.
Please note that in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025, an online search will be carried out as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.
