Information
Following the retirement of our current Headteacher, after 30 years of exceptional and dedicated service to this school the governors are seeking an experienced and ambitious school leader to be our new Headteacher from September 2023.

Royal Cross is a very successful special school for deaf children, judged outstanding at its last three inspections. Well established in the local and regional community, we work particularly closely with families.  Pupils come from across Lancashire and the North West.
Royal Cross is a small and lively environment, where everyone is enthusiastic about learning through enjoyment. Staff are dedicated to meeting the individual needs of pupils, particularly in
developing their ability to communicate in whatever way works best.

We are looking for an excellent leader with the following qualities:

  • strong interpersonal skills and commitment to an inclusive communication environment as the key to progress and well-being

  • knowledge and understanding of the specific needs of pupils and their families in a school for deaf children

  • passion to ensure high quality provision and continuous improvement

  • ability to manage a small school where natural fluctuations in numbers (due to low incidence needs) have an impact on funding

  • vision and drive to lead the school’s future development

  • If this sounds like the type of challenge you would relish, please have a look at the School website (www.royalcross.lancs.sch.uk), where you will find a range of information including the schools Child Protection Policy.
