Learning Leader of ICT & computing

Required from 19th April 2022

As part of our journey to become ‘a truly great school’, we are looking for a highly effective and motivated teacher to lead our ICT department. We wish to appoint an exceptional leader who can inspire our ICT provision to even greater success, in order to support our ambition to be in the top 20% of schools nationally.

All students follow the ICT and computing curriculum in years 7,8 and 9 through one 1 hour lesson per week. In year 10 and 11 we currently offer Computer Science GCSE and the level 2 OCR Cambridge National Creative iMedia course – these courses are delivered in 5 hours over 2 weeks. In addition to the Learning Leader there are 2 full time ICT and Computing members of teaching staff who deliver lessons to all year groups. Over the last 2 years the curriculum for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 has been rewritten focusing on the key knowledge and concepts needed for students to be successful. Both Computer Science and Creative iMedia are popular subjects with students in Key Stage 4.

Sir John Thursby Community College is a good school and we are passionate about and ambitious for our students. Our beautiful, state of the art building ensures that our students and staff have the best learning environment in which to achieve. We are a very positive community, with our recent staff survey showing that over 97% of our staff enjoy coming to work and are proud to be part of our school. At SJT we view the professional development of all staff as a priority and our innovative ‘Learn Together’ initiative enables all staff to be on our outstanding teacher programme.

We are looking for a teacher who shares our drive and passion to inspire our students with the love of their subject and has the motivation and expertise to:

  • To take responsibility for the leadership of the ICT department

  • To ensure that achievement rises in the department by effective analysis of student performance and through the delivery of an appropriate and inspiring curriculum

  • See website for more info here

  • We welcome visitors to the school (COVID restrictions permitting).
