Great Arley Special School is a moderate learning difficulty special school, based in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire. The school caters for pupils aged between 4 – 16 years. Supporting learning for a wide, varied and complex range of SEN and is commissioned for 100 students.
The school has developed the provision and curriculum to cater for children with a much wider range of more complex needs. Pupils are admitted from the Boroughs of Fylde and Wyre and, occasionally, from areas outside the Boroughs.
We have exciting full time, permanent Assistant Headteacher opportunities at the school commencing in January 2026.
The Governor Board wishes to appoint dynamic, enthusiastic, forward thinking Assistant Headteachers, whose inspiration, passion and leadership will continue to oversee the operational, educational, and strategic direction of the school through the ever-changing priorities of the SEND educational landscape, locally and nationally.

We want Assistant Headteachers who will:
• Make a difference to the learning, wellbeing and life prospects of all children at our school.
• Empower our students with knowledge, confidence, self-belief, life skills and strategies appropriate to their learning differences as well as promoting positive mental health, so that they can go forward in the modern world respecting themselves, others and achieve their very best in today’s world.
• Be committed to empowering pupils with the knowledge, confidence, life skills, and tailored strategies they need to thrive according to their individual learning profiles. We promote positive mental health and support our students to move forward with respect for themselves and others, aiming always to help them achieve their full potential in today’s world.
• Demonstrate and model excellence in curriculum design, pupil engagement, and participation, meeting the needs of a diverse and complex student population. Ensure the school consistently meets all statutory requirements, including those related to safeguarding and health and safety.
• Hold high aspirations for every learner, regardless of their starting point, supporting them to reach their full potential and successfully transition to the next stage of education or life. Celebrate and build upon each student’s progress, achievements, and success.
• Foster strong, collaborative partnerships with all stakeholders, to ensure an inclusive and equitable community, building and cementing positive relationships with an outfacing supportive approach.
• Ensure expectations that teaching and learning is of the highest quality at all levels within a responsive curriculum model that meets adapts to the unique needs and abilities of each student.
