This year the MFL department has been completely overhauled with Spanish being introduced into the curriculum for the first time. This has been extremely well received from the students as all are studying Spanish in Year 7 where students are engaged and have a real love of learning. The department is led by Mrs Crook, Assistant Headteacher MFL, and consists of 1 other full time teacher and 2 part-time teachers of MFL. It is a department that prides itself on being dynamic, innovative and collaborative.

We continually look to develop and improve our Teaching and Learning by engaging in evidence based research to improve the outcomes for our students as well as our own professional development. We are staunch advocates of quality-first teaching. We also pride ourselves on the commitment that we make to out of hours learning offering intervention and support where necessary. In addition, we offer a range of opportunities to our students which take their learning beyond the classroom and enhance their skills and knowledge.

This year we offer Welsh, Latin and Spanish club at lunch times and an extra-curricular, residential trip to France is set to go ahead in June 2023. At Key Stage 3, our students have three hours of MFL per fortnight with Year 10 and 11 options both having 5 hours over 2 weeks. All of our classrooms are fitted with whiteboards and visualisers to support metacognitive strategies and live modelling. At KS3 we follow the NCELP model, which focuses on Grammar, Vocabulary and Phonics.
