Summary
Hutton is a popular 11-18 Church of England comprehensive school. We admit boys only at 11-16 and have a mixed Sixth Form. We are oversubscribed in most year groups. We are looking to appoint a friendly and professional administrator to join the team in our busy school office.

The successful candidate will work on reception and will carry out a variety of administrative duties. The main focus of the role is to undertake administration relating to staff absence cover, acting as a first point of contact for staff who are absent and arranging or booking appropriate cover for their lessons. You will also work on reception to welcome and sign in visitors, parents and students and to deal with telephone enquiries from parents and other stakeholders.

Other duties are likely to include:
  • Maintaining and updating student records

  • Sending communications to students and parents

  • Dealing with incoming and outgoing post

  • Assisting with administration relating to student attendance

  • Basic financial processing to assist with dinner money and the administration of school trips and online payment accounts


  • We are looking for someone with an approachable and professional manner who has excellent communication skills to provide a welcoming first impression for those visiting school or who need assistance from the office. Good organisation and time management skills are also important as the post holder will need to be able to balance the demands of their workload with the regular interruptions of answering the phone and being on reception. The ability to enter data accurately and an understanding of the importance of confidentiality are also essential requirements. A willingness to undertake First Aid training is also a requirement.

    Experience of administrative work in a secondary school environment would be an advantage but is not an essential requirement as training will be provided where needed and you will be joining a supportive administration team who have extensive knowledge and experience to share.

    The post holder will work Monday – Friday between 7:45am and 2:15pm (with 30 minutes for lunch) during term time (plus INSET days). This position is part time, term time only, please note the salary quoted is full time equivalent. If successful, the salary received will be paid on a pro –rata basis.

    The successful candidate will be required to undergo Enhanced DBS Clearance in line with our commitment to safeguarding children and young people.   • English and Maths Grade C/4 at GCSE (or equivalent)
