The Governors of St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School are seeking an Early Years Teaching Assistant to join our staff team for the upcoming academic year. This is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the educational journey of our children in a vibrant Preston school. The ideal candidate will be passionate and knowledgeable about Early Years and supporting our youngest children’s learning and development.
The posts are for 27.5 hours per week Monday to Friday, with start and finish times to be agreed on appointment.
We are a successful, happy and welcoming school community with a positive and caring Catholic ethos. We are looking for individuals with excellent people skills who can nurture and support our EYFS children with their learning within the Catholic ethos of our school.
Day-to-day of the role under the supervision of the class teacher:
- Assist the class teacher in preparing and delivering educational activities.
- Provide support to individual students and small groups to help them understand and complete tasks.
- Encourage children’s engagement with the curriculum and foster a positive learning environment.
- Monitor and record children’s progress, sharing observations with the class teacher.
- Help manage classroom resources and set up continuous provision for lessons.
- Support the class teacher in delivering daily phonics sessions and reading support
- Participate in school meetings and professional development sessions as required.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience working as an EYFS Teaching Assistant or in a similar educational support role.
- Strong understanding of the educational needs of Early Years children.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the class teacher and other staff members.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive, encouraging attitude.
- Enhanced DBS with barred check (or willingness to obtain one).

This is a fixed term contract until the end of July 2025 with the possibility of the post becoming permanent. It will also be a variable hours contract of 10 hours per week but the requirement will for 27.5 per week.

NVQ level 2 or above qualification –appropriate to the post
GCSE Maths and English to grade ‘C’ or equivalent

Experience of supporting pupils with diverse needs

Have experience of working 1:1 with children within a classroom setting
