Summary
The Governing Board wishes to appoint an innovative, hardworking and committed Network Manager with the right knowledge, experience and technical skills to maintain and further develop the school’s IT systems. You should be able to work under pressure, be able to prioritise tasks, be resilient and possess excellent communication skills. You will be supported by an existing team member.

This is an exciting time to join Whitworth Community High School.  At Easter 2023 we moved into a brand new building and means the school benefits from a fantastic IT infrastructure in terms of cabling, switching, WiFi and server room.

The school makes heavy use of the Google Workspace ecosystem, including large numbers of Chromebooks and Chromeboxes (particularly for student use), but there is also a Microsoft infrastructure with limited on-premises servers (including Active Directory) and Windows (10 and 11) desktops and laptops for staff use and in specialist classrooms.

In March 2023 we were delighted that our Ofsted inspection team recognised that we continue to be a securely good school.

The Principal Duties will be :-

  • Work with senior leaders to develop the school’s IT strategy, ensuring that the best technologies and practices are put in place to further the schools’ vision of “Climbing Higher.” This will require a good understanding of technology and the ability to communicate this to a non-technical audience along with the imagination to see how technology can support the school’s development.

  • Implement, maintain and support IT systems in school, both independently and working with external partners where appropriate. This will include managing the day-to-day work of an IT Technician and prioritising work with regard for competing demands and end users’ needs. Good technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills will be vital in ensuring the school’s systems are always secure and available.
  • Manage user and device policies and permissions in Google Admin and Active Directory, plus other systems as required (such as filtering and keyword logging systems.)
  • Support staff in their use of IT. This will include offering training and preparing documentation as well as solving problems.
  • Select and purchase IT equipment and services, ensuring suitability for purpose and best value for the school

In this smaller high school a “can do” approach and a willingness to tackle “anything with a plug on it”, while working well with people at all levels will lead to the satisfaction of knowing that you have made a real difference to staff and students alike.

Whitworth Community High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.  Appointment is subject to a satisfactory enhanced disclosure (DBS).  Please note that in line with KCSIE 2023 an online search will be carried out as part of our due diligence on shortlisted candidates.
